Do you have $148 million to lend?

Rudy Giuliani may need your help if his appeal is denied!  LOL!  For entertainment last week, we attended all five days of the Giuliani trial.  For background, two Georgia election workers sued him for defamation.  He had previously been found liable.  This trial simply assessed the damages - compensatory, emotional and punitive.  The  trial was interesting!  While Giuliani didn't take the stand, he certainly felt free to talk to the press.  The judge reiterated her order for him not to speak outside of court.  During breaks and waiting for a verdict, we interacted with various reporters some of which we have seen on television.  Here are a couple of photos.

We ran into Harry Dunn at the courthouse.  He is a Capitol police officer that defended the Capitol on January 6th.  He was very approachable and consented to a photo with us.  Note: he had to bend down several inches to be in the picture.
We toured the Bureau of Engraving and Printing - very interesting stuff.  Wish we had a fraction of the currency we saw.  They wouldn't give us any.  Do you know these facts?
  • The Federal Reserve Act established the Federal Reserve System in 1913, which became our Central Bank.
  • The first Federal Reserve notes issued in 1914 and 1918 included the 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000, and 10000 dollar bills.
  • The 1 and 2 dollar Federal Reserve notes were issued in 1963 and 1976 replacing the $1 silver certificate and the $2 US notes.
  • The BEP used to print postage stamps for USPS until the 2000s
  • Donna used to work for the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas and worked a temporary assignment with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.  She met two chairmen - Mr. Bernanke and Mr. Greenspan, though she doubts they remember her.

When we first arrived to DC, the fall colors were still in abundance - more yellows than oranges.

We're residing in a DC apartment this winter rather than an extended stay hotel.  The apartment is small, but we love the location - near the White House.  The rooftop patio provides a spectacular view of the area.  Don wants to especially mention that he can see his monument from the rooftop.  Can you guess which one that is from this photo?
Hiking in Rock Creek Park is always fun.  Lately the horses have been out at the stables in the park.
We attended a few free concerts at the Kennedy Center.  The facility offers a free event pretty much every day.  The music was excellent!

There's a cool statue of JFK.
Went to The View of DC in Arlington - it's on the 31st floor with floor to ceiling windows.

We traveled to Baltimore via Amtrak for a couple of days.  It was fun!  There is a Washington Monument located in Baltimore - not as spectacular as the one in DC.  However, it is the first memorial dedicated to the nation's first president.
We stayed close to the Inner Harbor area of the city and visited their View Baltimore on the 29th floor of a nearby building.

We enjoyed a brat and sauerkraut at the local Christmas Market.  It was very yummy!
Another tasty experience - Chopt has the best salads and warm grain bowls.!
One last thing - 47 years ago while Donna was still a senior in high school, she lost her class ring while camping and hiking in an Illinois park.  She had given it to a friend for safekeeping because she had a pocket with a closure.  Needless to say the ring was lost....Fast forward to last month....Donna is notified by an alumnus of the same school that a man metal detecting in that park found it some 15 or so years ago.  She reached out to the man, verified that it was hers (initials located inside of the ring), and it was sent to her.  Can you believe it?!?!  It looks practically brand new - even after being buried for over 30 years - and it still fits!  Wow!

Stay tuned for our annual Christmas blog post.
