From Tennessee to family in Madison to DC

Bet you thought we dropped off the face of the earth.  It's been awhile..... we've been busy.

On our way out of Tennessee we were struck again at the miles and miles of white fence surrounding the horse ranches in the countryside. How do they stay so white - must cost a fortune to maintain.

Made it to Madison, AL.  Kalen and Amber were wonderful hosts - spent time eating homemade meals, chatting, hiking, and eating ice cream and donuts.  Life couldn't get any better.

Glad we saw this spider before it attacked us! It was huge!
Their cats love donuts too and have been known to get into the box when no one is looking.  Naughty cats! LOL!

Left our belongings except for a suitcase of clothes each and our laptops with Kalen and Amber as well as our trusty ride.  It felt strange getting on an airplane for the first time in nearly two years.  We flew to Washington DC.  Everything went smoothly.  It wasn't too bad wearing masks in the airport and on the plane.

For the next three months we will be staying at AKA - White House near the actual one (two blocks away).  We negotiated a great deal.  We love our room on the top floor of this hotel - 700 sq. feet with a kitchen, separate bedroom and one and a half baths.  That's more room than we've had since we left our house October 2020.  The sales manager has been very responsive and helpful when we have asked for anything.  If you are so inclined there's a 360 degree view of our room at their website.

We plan to visit the museums, memorials, and wander around the city.  Also, bought tickets to Carole King - The Musical for the end of the month.  We're excited!

Our sons Kalen and Conor would love this statue.
Being near the White House, we've already seen the Secret Service and police shutting down streets on a moment's notice to allow the passage of a caravan of black SUVs - could it be the president????  Marine One (the President's helicopter) also flies by regularly.

We're visiting our daughter Alexa today.  She lives nearby in Alexandria, VA.  Stay tuned for more blogs on the sights and wonder of DC.
