We met up with a troll on the trail!

Image
Oops, wrong picture!  This wooden troll is quite famous here in Breckenridge! We took a gondola and chairlift ride up the mountain last week.  Both rides totaled just over two miles in length with an elevation change of nearly 1700 feet.  First time for Donna - and it was a little freaky for her, but she did it!  Her hands were sweaty after the tight grip on the bar.  Don, even with all of the skiing he did in his younger years, had never gone down the mountain on a chairlift.  He was a little unnerved too.  Here we are on the gondola. There are no pictures of us on the chairlift.  Neither of us wanted to take our hands off the bar long enough to take one.  Or worse yet, drop our camera and have to walk back up the mountain to retrieve it.  You will have to be okay with a picture of other people on the chairlift. In our last blog, we showed you the wild dandelions that are everywhere and so pretty.  This time, we'll show you trees around the area that could be Christmas trees.  W

Breakfast with a moose is rather exciting!

While eating breakfast at a local restaurant on the plaza in Breckenridge, a moose casually walked by the window.   We were able to snap these pics, but he disappeared before we could ask him in for breakfast.😁 Hiking is both literally and figuratively taking our breath away!  The thinner air contributes to our breathlessness.  Most of our hikes are done in silence as talking uses up too much of our available oxygen.  The scenery is so beautiful!  Yesterday was our longest and highest trek yet.  Round trip of seven miles with an elevation increase of 1600 feet. Part way up the mountain, we stopped at Ten Mile Station - elevation at just over 10,200 feet.  Note the difference in snow in less than two weeks. There is a horse stables halfway to Ten Mile Station.  We've seen lots of horseback riders.  So cool! Our destination - the Peak 9 Overlook sits at just over 11,200 feet.  We definitely noticed the temperature drop and the wind increase as we arrived.  A firm grip on our hats w
