Celebrating the 4th of July with a parade and a 10 mile hike to Frisco, CO!

Every year Breckenridge hosts a July 4th parade down Main Street beginning with a 50 mile mountain trail bike race.  We can't imagine racing as fast as you can while also slogging up a total of 8000 feet of terrain over the course.  As you know, what goes up must come down - so the bikers also had to race down 8000 feet without crashing.  The winning time for this 50 mile trail race was 3 hours and 44 minutes.  Wow!

The bikers kicked off the parade.  Here is the first group led by an American Patriot.

Here are pictures of the parade.  As tradition requires, most of the participants threw out candy to the crowd.  Don and I collected and ate our fair share!

The best part of the parade was not having to wait in line to exit the parking lot with the thousands of other vehicles.  We simply walked down a side street and were back to our condo in 10 minutes.

We also celebrated by hiking nearly 10 miles to Frisco on a trail through the mountains and woods.  A deer was just as interested in us and we were of her.
The views were beautiful!

We treated ourselves with some barbecue and a brew at the end of our hike.  With our tummies full, we felt it best to take the bus back to Breckenridge rather than try to hoof it home.
We hope you had as much fun as we did on the 4th!  We'll post one more time before we leave Breckenridge.
