Two nomads living in our nation's capital for the winter. As we flew into Reagan National Airport in the third week of November, Donna was reminiscing about the fun she had last winter in DC while Don was busy taking yet again a photo of his favorite landmark. Can you guess which one that is???? (Hint: It's tall and narrow.)
Our first few days were spent stocking the hotel room with stuff - mostly food. The grocery store is a mile and a half away, so it was important that we buy a rolling shopping cart again. Even with our new shopping cart, it took us several trips. On our treks to the store and sightseeing, there was still fall color to spot.
And interesting architecture.
And even a protest march....
We've hiked Rock Creek Park a few times so that we can get some exercise with some elevation change. We need to burn all of the calories we are eating (cookies, chocolate, chips, ice-cream, you name it....)
Note the frost on the fallen leaves. It was a little chilly that morning.
We have taken in a bit of culture too.
The Hirshhorn Art Museum - housing modern and contemporary art.....
The Museum of African American History and Culture.... Even with a timed entry pass, it was very crowded. We decided to visit only half of the exhibits this time and go back later at a (hopefully) less busy time.
The Kennedy Center is one of our favorites for attending concerts and plays.
MerryTuba Christmas is an annual free concert with just tubas, euphoniums, and sousaphones featuring traditional holiday music. 2022 marks the 49th year of this event. Multiple performances are held around the world.
Players decorate their instruments. Hats, scarfs, and buttons are sold commemorating the event.
The band featured young, old, and in-between. The youngest was 10 years old - her second year to perform.
Children were invited on stage to sing one of their favorite carols.
We also went to A Soldier's Play - very well acted by the way.
We took in the Magical Cirque Christmas at the National Theatre, which was a lot of fun.
Worn out? We can't be. There is still so much left to see and do here in DC. We'll be here for another 2 - 1/2 months. Woohoo!
